Bethany Shorb is a sculptor, fashion designer and all-around Renaissance woman whose latest exhibit, Supplemental Restraint System, is currently on view at Devotion Gallery in Brooklyn.
Shorb was born in Boston and currently lives in Detroit; she and I met at Cranbrook, just outside of Detroit. This body of work appropriates and reconfigures airbags, panels and logos from wrecked cars into a commentary on car culture.
