This chalkboard is in my new neighborhood of Brookside in Indianapolis, across the street from the awesome food co-op. While I appreciate this as a platform for neighbors’ thoughts, I can’t help but feel that the issue is one of spelling more than anything else. Convenience stores may be nothing to brag about, but I believe that they have a place in an urban retail ecosystem.

  1. I’m still in the very early stages of figuring out my new neighborhood, but one I know from where I’ve lived elsewhere, is that convenience stores serve a purpose, whether it’s a chain drug store or a little corner store.

For instance, the food co-op across the street from this chalkboard is great when it comes to many things, but it doesn’t sell toilet paper and isn’t open on Sunday nights. So, I prefer a mix of neighborhood businesses that can serve my various needs.
