Last Friday, I had the pleasure of attending a Creative Mornings talk by Mike Maydak. Though best known for his comic- and pop culture-based fan art paintings and giclée prints, Maydak also occasionally focuses his vivid, twisty aesthetic on Cincinnati-area scenes, which I’ll show you here. Above is the ubiquitous Florence Y’All water tower in Northern Kentucky.
Below, a few Cincinnati scenes — downtown, Eden Park and Northside:

Mike Maydak is based in Northern Kentucky but exhibits his work at comic conventions all over the world.
Creative Mornings is a free monthly lecture series. If you live in a medium or large city anywhere in the world, there may already be a chapter [or start your own!]. My favorite local talk was the one by my friend and kick-ass designer Chris Glass — it’s insightful and funny as hell. Check out the archive of all the talks [18 in Cincinnati and 1,360 worldwide]. That’s a lot of inspiration!
I’ve always loved Maydack’s style.
I was unaware of his work until, on a whim, I decided to attend his CM talk. So glad I did!
