Scott Williams is a NYC-based artist and educator who has been using chance as a determining factor for the subjects of his oil on panel paintings.

For this series of plein air paintings, Williams gridded out a map of Brooklyn and Queens and determined the locations to be painted by throwing out lettered and numbered coins, resulting in these landscapes:

Williams studied under Op Art great Julian Stanczak in Cleveland, whose installation in downtown Cincinnati constitutes the most artful parking garage I’ve ever seen. For more of Williams’ work, check out his portfolio.
