Our Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati neighbor and friend Cedric Michael Cox is a talented, hard-working artist who is having his first solo exhibit in NYC, with an opening this Saturday.
Located in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, FiveMyles is a nonprofit exhibition and performance space focused on giving emerging, merited artists the opportunity to present their work in solo exhibitions.
Cedric’s exhibition is entitled Polyphonic Playground and features new and recent paintings and drawings showcasing the artist’s love of music, architecture and the natural environment with richly toned, intertwining forms based, as always, on the rich legacies of Cubism, Italian Futurism and Surrealism. If you’re in NYC, here’s everything you need to know:
opening reception: Saturday July 13, 5:30-8 pm
on view: July 13-27, 2013
558 St. Johns Place
gallery hours: Thursday-Sunday, 1-6 pm
or by appointment: 718.783.4438
I’ve been Cedric’s designer for almost four years now, starting with promotional materials for his Soul within Structure exhibit at the Contemporary Arts Center [we treated the show as a rock concert and plastered the screenprinted posters all over Cincinnati], and then continuing with subsequent exhibit posters and postcards, web site and other marketing materials. He is easily one of the awesomest people I’ve ever met and, while I’m bummed that I won’t be in Brooklyn this weekend, I’m really excited to see him movin’ on up.
