Last summer, Jonathan Queen worked with a team of ArtWorks apprentices on the creation of a photorealistic mural entitled Fresh Harvest, located on the side of Kroger HQ on Central Parkway in downtown Cincinnati.
The fruits and vegetables are painted so well that the mural looks like a huge photograph or a 17th century Dutch still life. The produce seems to be tumbling off the wall.
Stepping back to examine the whole piece, you notice that it’s located above a dumpster. A dumpster? If anything, that should be a compost bin, no?
Jonathan Queen was raised in Lexington, KY and studied art at Eastern Kentucky and the University of Cincinnati. His focus is on “toy narrative still life” and, if you’d like to know what that looks like, here’s a Cincinnati-centric example:
