I spotted this Ben-Hur Coffee ghost sign on the corner of Ivy and India Sts. in the Little Italy section of San Diego. According to the San Diego Reader, this building was once the sales branch for a coffee company, which opened in the 1920s.
According to Lost San Diego, the coffee was a tie-in to the 1925 MGM silent movie [which predated the 1959 Charlton Heston version]. The promotional products apparently included toiletries and fragrances as well. You can still sort of make out Ben-Hur on a chariot in the middle of the label.
