Kind readers, I know you’ve been impatiently waiting for the next installment in my typological series on the vanity license plates of Southwestern Ohio, and here it is! Today, we’re taking a look at sports messaging, and possibly adult content. Above, BARECAT. Pun-prone UC fan or porn mogul? It’s impossible to know for sure.
BEAVERZ. Again, sports team or?
UCBRCT is pretty straightforward:
AUBRN; go, Tigers:
I photographed MET FAN outside the Great American Ballpark in downtown Cincinnati:
I’ve seen several references to golfing since I started this little project, but I’ve only managed to document one — U GOLF 2:
SOCR RYD and SOCR CHX are a different sort of sports reference:
If one of these cars belongs to you, please don’t get creeped out or offended. I’m just fascinated by this type of minutia. If your vanity license plate includes your initials and/or lucky numbers, fear not — I’m only documenting messages that make some sort of sense to me, not every single example I find.
The first part in this series investigated meta expression. Stay tuned for many more installments. Seriously, there will be more installments than you can imagine.
Edited to add 8 RED SOX and SNTSFAN. Transplants from Boston and New Orleans, possibly?
Further edited to add RNNRGRL, XRCISE and PKR FAN 2 [I wouldn’t really consider poker a sport, but it’s on ESPN, so…]:
