This year, VL work kept us really busy, but we were able to squeeze in a few quick trips. I found plenty of inspiration in Cincinnati and beyond, and here are my favorite posts of my adventures. Pictured above is the glorious Guardian Building in downtown Detroit.
The Chicago Stock Exchange Trading Room by Adler & Sullivan features a dizzying array of patterns:
In Chicago, we stayed at the swanky [also scandal-filled and possibly haunted] Congress Plaza Hotel:
In Springfield, OH, we toured the beautifully restored Westcott House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright:
While in Springfield, we stumbled onto the Hartman Rock Garden, which was an absolutely amazing find:
I’ve been to the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati numerous times and finally posted something online about its awesomeness:
In Hamilton, OH, we visited the Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park:
We checked out Subsurface 2011 in Indianapolis, which was a good time:
We got lost in Gary, IN but found the old train station designed by M. A. Lang:
Yarn-bombing hit Cincinnati:
We toured the immense Biltmore Estate in Asheville:
Asheville seems to be an Art Deco mecca; the S&W Cafeteria was one of my favorite architectural finds:
Downtown Asheville’s Grove Arcade was another cool building to explore, with its Palladian grandeur and Gothic details:
See also my favorite posts from 2008, 2009, and 2010. There you have it! It’s nice to take some time to reflect on past experiences and to remember how many incredible things I’ve encountered both here in Cincinnati and in recent travels.
