Charlotte-based designer Nikki Mueller runs a one-woman show at Not Made in China, a studio that creates and produces buttons, mirrors, magnets, totes, t-shirts, and prints with a sense of humor. Originally from Oceanside, CA, Nikki both loves her current home in the South and lightheartedly makes fun of it. As an expat myself, I can definitely appreciate this!
As a bonus, I met Nikki a few months ago when she visited Cincinnati. I suggested that we meet at Skirtz & Johnston for coffee and goetta danishes, which I think is a great introduction to both Cincinnati’s charms and some of its quirks. In any case, she’s every bit as clever as her work suggests. For more, check out the Not Made in China site and Etsy shop.
What a lovely write up, Maya! Thank you so much for your kind words… it means a lot coming from someone as talented as you.
My pleasure! It was great meeting you and then watching the development of your work over the past few months. Plus, it’s so cool that you didn’t even initially know about our seed bombs!
Not made in China? Oooh clever xenophobia! How (not) unique.
Alexis, I agree with you. The goods themselves, on the other hand, I think are pretty clever.
Hey Maya–I’ve got some issues about the use of ‘the ghetto’ but yes, on the whole, I like the goods.
