Happy Brooklyn Day!

Brooklyn Day, scheduled for the first Thursday of June, is actually called Brooklyn-Queens Day, and is actually observed by all NYC public schools. It is an administrative holiday, and a day for all schoolkids to engage in some mischief, typically either in Coney Island or closer to home. Happy Brooklyn Day, everyone!

  1. maya,

Prior to ’07, only Brooklyn & Queens students had a free day.

In 2007 the holiday expanded to all five boroughs as part of a new contract between teachers and the Department of Education (DOE).

When I taught in Brooklyn, we annually spent B-Q Day @
    Belmont betting the ponies!!!

  2. It was definitely called only Brooklyn Day when I was in school. Belmont? Wow! My friends and I always went to Coney, except for one year that we ended up at Great Adventure.
