The Boats by Georges Damin
How awesome are the jaunty forms and funky colors in this painting by Georges Damin? Born in Lyon in 1942, Damin has exhibited his work throughout Western Europe and the US, and now has a studio and gallery in Lyon, where he regularly exhibits his own work.

This post is part of my ongoing informal campaign to bring a bit of new exposure to the work of some interesting 20th century artists — see also the work of Þórarinn B. Þorláksson, Nicholas Takis, Mark Coomer, Katsuyuki Nishijima, David Levine, and Jim Flora.
Geez – another great find, Maya!
I seem to know where to dig up this stuff. I wonder if I’ll ever run out of inspiring work to post?
These paintings are absolutely darling! Thank you so much for sharing them!
gawd, i always want to buy everything i see on your blog!
I couldn’t figure out how to email you back. Let me know if you want a picture of how the skate deck looks from the back. It’s pretty easy to do though.
Grace, you can have your very own Georges Damin painting for a mere $950-1250, available here. Yikes!

As far as I can tell via Babel Fish, Claus has either purchased or listed a painting or print by Damin that looks like Maison Catherine. He seeks some form of help.

I’ve seen a few Damin paintings for sale online at auction houses, galleries, and eBay, so you might want to try those as a starting point.

I would like to sell my damin original
Want to sell my damin
Robert, you may want to talk to a dealer who is familiar with Damin’s paintings, or at least with paintings of that era. Or, you could take your chances on eBay — that’s how I stumbled across my Damin original.

a Friend of my gave me as a gift before he pass a Maison Catherine painting its signed an date may 64 I believe 1964 im just curious to know how much its worth.
Rodger, I’ve seen Damin paintings offered for sale in the $950-1250 range. Of course, that doesn’t mean that there are buyers at that price, but I guess that would be a rough estimate of value.
Georges Damin was born in Lyon, France in 1942. He has exhibited work in western Europe and the US and he currenly has a gallery in Lyon. See his website at http://www.damin.fr
You’re exactly right, Tony. I used Damin’s site as a resource when putting this post together.
Hello,
I recently acquired one of his paintings. See pic attached; it’s aprox 9” x 11” and in very good condition.
Congratulations on your Damin acquisition!
I fell in love with Damin’s work while on a business trip to Carmel, CA. I immediately bought one and the following week returned and bought 2 more! That was about 30 years ago – wish I had the funds to buy more!
Wow, Linda, that’s great! I have one of his paintings and absolutely love it.
