Ranger Doug Enterprises is the brainchild of Doug Leen, a Barrow, Alaska-based dentist and former Park Ranger who has dedicated considerable time and energy to researching and recreating the old WPA National Park posters as well as contemporary posters in the WPA style.
Above are some of Ranger Doug’s contemporary designs; the old cars in the posters remind me of Charley Harper’s Ford Times prints — his Horseless Carriage series featured Model T Fords in scenic locations, including some National Parks.
Below is an example of Ranger Doug’s research. The first poster was his “best guess” reproduction of the Yosemite design, based on a black-and-white photograph. Below that is the accurate recreation, based on an actual poster that later came to his attention.
These open-edition screenprints are only $40 each and, having seen one in person, I can attest to their high quality and level of craftsmanship. They’re really quite gorgeous.
I like those a lot. Thanks for sharing. Very neat.
They’re really great. I love the designs, the colors are rich, and they’re beautifully printed.
