Brooklyn’s own Zig Zag Records on Ave. U at at 23rd St. closed down last December after 35 years in business. It’s where I used to get tickets for shows at L’Amour back when I was in high school. Seeing the shuttered storefront in person made this old news hurt that much more, but what’s going on here? Is a new business opening in that space?
One of my Brooklyn favs!
Underneath there was a tailoring sign- http://www.fadingad.com/blog/brooklyn/sheepshead_bay_tailoring.jpg
Whoa, Frank, you’ve got eagle eyes! it’s cool to get a bit more of the history of this storefront. I wonder if a new tenant is moving in here this fall.
I can’t remember the guys name who owned zig zag but he gave my band a write up in Metal Forces magazine when we where on NY Metal 84 compilation album & also Iron Tyrants Album out of california. I loved going to zig zag but hated that it was hard to find a parking space next to the store.
It was an awesome place. I guess record stores are a casualty of our changing times, so please continue to support the ones that still exist.
