Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park in Hamilton, OH

Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park in Hamilton, OH is a quick little getaway from Cincinnati, and I finally went for the first time this summer. It includes an Ancient Sculpture Museum and a pioneer-built stone house, but the main attraction is a collection of large sculptures in a wooded setting.

Honestly, the “monumental” sculptures got a bit repetitive after a while. Many are similar in scale, either stone slabs or powder-coated steel. Wandering from one to another provided an impetus for walking through the park, but most seem completely non-site-specific. This one is interesting; it spins around its axis:

If you’re looking to get out of Dodge for an afternoon, Pyramid Hill is perfect. But, if you just want to connect with nature for a few hours, you can save the admission fee and hit up one of Cincinnati’s many parks instead. Or, if sculpture is your thing, I highly recommend 100 Acres in Indianapolis, which opened last summer. It’s not too far from the Queen City, and features really engaging, varied sculptures in a similarly beautiful setting. It’s free, too!

  1. I’ve been to Pyramid Park as well. The collection of sculptures, as you mentioned, doesn’t really seem site-specific. I think it’s more of a place to gather larger outdoor works that can’t find a home elsewhere. The trails are great, however.
