You know what would be cool? A Film Studies/Urban Planning class whose screenings could include classics such as Metropolis and Weekend, and also little gems like 8 Mile, The Warriors and, of course, Over the Edge. A bit of trivia: Matt Dillon’s famous line, “A kid who tells on another kid is a dead kid” is also the title of a Nation of Ulysses song.

My uncultured sister had never seen The Warriors so I bought her the DVD. She refuses to watch it. What’s wrong with these people?
The DVD version is bunk — the footage has been intercut with graphic novel-esque interstitials, to make the whole thing seem more like a comic or a videogame, rather than the gritty reality it represents. So, your sister’s right. You should get her the original version on VHS, along with a VCR to watch it with.
Also, like all good things, there’s a freaking remake in the works. Ugh.
Not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination, but it deserves its place in the “cult classic” pantheon. The soundtrack is great, and the theme of teens rebelling against adults is timeless.
Agreed! I also enjoyed seeing Matt Dillon’s yummy debut performance [oops, did I just admit to that?].
