A friend just alerted me to photos of the Big Sur wedding of Katie and Nathan, which included our West Coast seed bombs. We’ve filled a few seed bomb orders for weddings this summer, and it’s always a thrill when people choose for our work to be part of their big day.

First the penny farthing, then the steam-powered locomotive, and now we’ve got make-ready mini prints featuring a pirate ship with a VL flag. We like pirates — not contemporary pirates, who are just seafaring terrorists, but the kinds of pirates who shop at 826 Valencia in San Francisco, the pirate supply store.

Just a quick update on Smitty’s, the store on Vine St. which caught fire three months ago — what’s left of the buildings’ facade is the site of a recent Future Blooms intervention. We’ve heard really great things about Mullane’s Parkside Cafe, which used to be downtown [Piatt Park, I think], but it closed years ago, before we moved to Cincinnati. Did you know that Ellen, who used to work there, has been working to reopen the place on Race St., facing Washington Park? Obviously, I don’t know [...]

Our East Coast seed bombs are now available at Catbird in Brooklyn, which specializes in jewelry and other small gifts. I feel like an old-timer for being able to point out that I attended junior high not far from this boutique’s location, way before you could buy anything like our work on Bedford Ave.

Continuing my ongoing typological investigation into the corner store phenomenon, I now take you to the Northern Kentucky towns of Newport and Covington, their many corners showcasing conveniently located corner stores. Ahh, this is what I miss living in Over-the-Rhine!
