Nicholas Takis was born in NYC in 1903 and passed away in 1964. He studied at the Art Students’ League, New York School of Fine & Applied Art, and New York Evening School of Industrial Art. His work was exhibited in NYC and Pittsburgh, among other cities.

The offices of the Haile Foundation in downtown Cincinnati needed more privacy for the main conference room, which is separated from the entry foyer only by a glass wall. What would be more appropriate for such a locally-minded organization than an image of the Ohio River and its environs?

Hennie Haworth is a London-based illustrator who has worked for The New York Times, Urban Outfitters, Penguin, and Nickelodeon, among other clients. I love her illustrations of city scenes; see also the amazing examples of handmade lettering on her site.

I spotted this large-scale ad in downtown Columbus a couple of weeks ago. I’m not really a fan of intrusive advertising, but is this one more offensive because it’s so obnoxious, or is it just obnoxious enough to be amusing?

In the final rap battle in 8 Mile, Jimmy Smith, played by Eminem in a loosely autobiographical role, calls out Papa Doc for having attended “Cranbrook, that’s a private school.” Oh, the horror! Em, you should know that even the poshest private schools offer need-based financial aid.
