It’s a lace doily… It’s a gas station price sign… It’s a placemat… It’s all those things! You may have caught a glimpse of these funky placemats at the OTR/Gateway Summer Celebration back in June, or as part of our PLACEMADE exhibit that’s currently up at MiCA 12/v. They’re also for sale in our online shop.
We’ve upcycled a limited quantity of acrylic gas station price signs by screenprinting a dowdy doily onto them. You can use them as placemats, doilies, party-ready coasters, or assemble several together to form a room divider.

These are simply lovely! What an amazing example of reuse!
Thank you so much! This was a backwards project for us — we didn’t decide to design placemats. Instead, we had these gas station numbers and figured out that they could be used as placemats, and then developed a design on top of them that we thought would be appropriate. It was fun to work that way!
Hi, I just saw this posted on Apartment Therapy, and I wanted to tell you that I think these are fabulous and definitely in line with the emerging ‘granny chic’ trend. Kudos on a great project! I’m off to check out your Etsy shop to see what else I find.
