Green Spaces: Every Day Is Earth Day opens Thursday night at ArtWorks in downtown Cincinnati. The exhibit features work by Visionaries & Voices artists in response to the concept of “green.” The work varies from the creative reuse of materials to the subject of landscape, manmade or natural.

The Bethany Center in the Mission District of San Francisco features a large-scale mural by Dan Fontes. Entitled Salud!, it depicts active seniors engaging in fun activities. In a neighborhood that’s practically covered in murals, including its alleys and other institutional buildings, this building, with its single, narrow, mural-covered facade, seems almost subdued.

When the Sedgwick Station on the Brown Line in Chicago was renovated a couple of years ago, this mosaic mural by Dzine [a.k.a. Carlos Rolon] was added. A few weeks ago, I struck up a conversation with a man who seemed unnecessarily rude and aggressive. Jerk-like. We bantered back and forth, until I made some crack about it. He responded with the non-answer, “I just fucking moved here from Soho.”
