Andrew Byrom is a Brit now living in Long Beach, CA, where he teaches and runs a graphic design consultancy. I was introduced to his work through an exhibit I curated some years back entitled I Profess: the Graphic Design Manifesto, and he’s got a type specimen in the traveling exhibit Alphabet: An Exhibition of Hand-Drawn Lettering and Experimental Typography.

Byrom’s professional experience includes a four-year apprenticeship at a shipyard and, looking at the work above, I think the connection is obvious. He’s a builder-designer, whose work seamlessly melds digital technology with hand craft.
